Why do we support apprenticeships?
There is a definite shortage of labour in the workforce in the UK, and fewer Europeans are coming here to work as they can earn a decent wage at home. As a result, we are seeing a real skills gap in our industry.
We have found that the best way to fill this gap is with apprentices. Paul and I were lucky enough to to be given apprenticeships, and my son Jack has recently started one with BAE systems, which is a great achievement and will set him on a great career path.
We are committed to taking school leavers, and we are currently taking on a 22-year-old apprentice. He completed one in bicycle repair and has seen it isn’t going to get him where he needs to be so has joined the Lightouch Solutions team. It costs us money, but we believe it is worth it to get us the people we need to grow the business organically.
What will an apprenticeship with Lightouch Solutions do for you?
The electrical sector is so different to 20 years ago, with so many different disciplines it’s important to train people in the areas we need. We will only need to repeat it with qualified engineers when they join so it makes sense to do it from early in their professional career. An apprenticeship with Lightouch Solutions will not only give you on the job training but you’ll get a qualification and a salary. You’ll learn from experienced, time-served electricians who are not only expert electrical engineers but work with some of the largest companies who are at the cutting edge of lighting and electrical technology.
We have had a total of 8 apprentices join the company over our nine years trading and will continue to develop young people going forward.
