According to an article in the Guardian in August, there has been a dramatic increase in the number of all-electric cars purchased in the UK, in fact it’s up by 70% which just goes to show how eco-friendly the car-buying public is. There are other perks to driving an electric car, including road tax exemption and government grants.
In response to this, there has been a rise in the number of electric vehicle charging points across the country, they now outnumber fuel stations by almost 1,000, so you’re less likely to be stranded with no power! From a couple of hundred in 2011, there are now around 9,300 EV charging points, while petrol stations are declining in numbers every year.

The main challenge facing electric vehicle owners is for the companies in control of the charging infrastructure to maintain its growth in line with the rise in vehicle numbers.
According to Zap-Map, the charging point platform, two new rapid charge devices came online every day in the last month.
The majority of UK motorway service stations are equipped with EV charging points, many even have rapid charge options.
April 2019 saw the introduction of a new ultra-low emission zone in London which has led to an increase in the number of electric vehicles in the capital, and in the last year Transport for London has installed over 1,000 EV charging points. There are expected to be another 1,000 installed on residential streets in the near future.

In 2019, the demand for battery electric vehicles has risen by 70% overall, with registrations in July up by 158.1% alone, resulting in a 1.4% market share – the highest monthly market share on record.
